What if I don't live in Oklahoma?
If birth mothers want to work with us, and live out of state, they may stay in our maternity home.
If you choose to stay in your own home, for the duration of your pregnancy, and you live in another state, we will find a counselor near you to help you with the adoption process.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT ADOPTION
These questions are from the standpoint of a young woman in a crisis pregnancy, or a young man, who is the father of the child.
Q: How can adoption be a good thing when I will be losing a child?
A: If you are not ready to be a parent, placing a child for adoption is the best solution. Abortion is not giving a child a chance at life, adoption not only gives life to a child, but also allows the child to have a wonderful life with a loving family.
Q: How much will adoption cost me?
A: Adoption is free to the birth family. The adoptive family pays for the counseling you will receive and the legal aspects of the adoption.
Q: Who will be the parents of my child, if I choose adoption for him or her?
A. When birth parents work with Christian Services of Oklahoma, they may choose the adoptive parents for their child, either by looking in our book of families, or on our website, www.christian-adoption.org. All of our adoptive parents are Christians and belong to a congregation and worship faithfully.
Q: Will I ever know how my baby is doing after birth?
A: Continued contact is available, depending on the birth family's wishes. Many birth families receive pictures and letters from the adoptive families as the child grows.
Q: How much will the child know about me?
A: In Oklahoma, the adoptive parents must have a complete medical background on the child and the birth parents. The birth parents may choose what other information they would like the child to have.
Q: What rights does the birth father have?
A: Both birth parents have rights in Oklahoma. If you disagree about adoption or you no longer have a relationship with each other, the agency will work with the birth father to terminate his rights, or work with the courts to determine if his rights can be terminated.
Q: Where do I live while I am pregnant?
A: Christian Services of Oklahoma will be able to help you complete an adoption plan in your own home, or you may want to choose to move to our maternity home.
Q: How can I be sure my child will not be neglected or abused?
A: All adoptive families are inspected to ensure they meet the standards of the agency, the birth parents and the law, through references, criminal backgrounds and a home investigation by the agency.
